A backstitch worked with crossed threads on the wrong side, forming padding (detail 5), follows the scrolls, which are outlined with dots and satin-stitch (plumetis) leaves. 2. Gathered below a clean-cut top, here is another slip in silk-weight cloth, bordered at top and bottom with motif A, whose main designs are worked in point de Paris (detail 1) with dot trims, large and small. 3. On this lovely nightgown in silk crêpe, we find motif E again, outlining the curve of the scalloped area that holds the gathers in place. 4. A simpler nightdress, in nainsook or lawn, is trimmed with motif B made of satin-stitch (plumetis) leaves and scallops, openworked in the middle with Turkish stitch (point turc). (detail 2) 5. In very fine voile or silk, this nightgown is originally trimmed with a scalloped band (detail 4), edged with trou-trou eyelet work D, through which a ribbon is threaded and tied at the shoulders. 6. Lastly, a very elaborate lingerie set in satin crêpe, trimmed with lace mounted in satin (bourdon) stitch (detail 3), and motif C. The large flowers of the bouquet, worked in satin stitch (plumetis) and appliquéd in point de Paris (detail 1), are made from the wrong side of the fabric.
